Hilda Grochow, age 94, of Gaylord, passed away Sat., May 7, 2011, at Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Gaylord. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thurs., May 12, 2011, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. The Rev. Fredric Hinz will officiate.
Hilda Bertha Grochow was born on January 1, 1917, in Dryden Township, Sibley County. She was the only child of Albert and Lillian (Schulz) Grochow. Hilda was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mountville, Dryden Township. She received her education at Mountville Country School. Hilda was a life long Gaylord area resident.
Hilda helped her parents with the farm work. She had also worked at Big Stone, Inc. in Arlington, and Hand’s, Inc. in Winthrop. In the early 1950s she moved into Gaylord and in 1999 moved to the Gaylord Homes.
Hilda was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord.
Hilda volunteered at the Senior Dining, working in the kitchen and serving food and belonged to the Senior Citizen’s Club. She enjoyed all types of gardening, playing Bingo, and going out to eat with friends.
Hilda is survived by numerous cousins and friends.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Lillian Grochow.
