Roger Harbarth, age 66 of Gaylord, passed away Wed., Oct. 13, 2010, at the Sibley Medical Center in Arlington. Funeral services were Monday, October 18, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Fredric Hinz officiated.
Honorary casket bearers were grandsons, Zachary Dorweiler and Beauen Harbarth. Casket bearers were Rick Harbarth, Jeff Young, Jon Harbarth, Lincoln Langhorst, Matt Rogalsky, Brian Gieseke, Craig Wolter, Jon Suedbeck, Tim Meyer and Steve Lytle.
Roger Clarence Harbarth was born on October 5, 1944, in Gaylord. He was the son of Clarence and Ruth (Stelter) Harbarth. Roger was baptized as an infant at St. John’s Lutheran Church (Mountville) and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. He received his education at Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Gaylord High School in 1962.
On July 6, 1963, Roger was united in marriage to Diane Langhorst at Bernadotte Lutheran Church. After their marriage the couple resided in Dryden Township and farmed. He enjoyed the crop farming, plus raising pigs, calves and cattle. After retirement, he assisted his son with the farming which he enjoyed until the day before his death. He thoroughly enjoyed having three generations out working in the fields and bringing in the wonderful harvest. Roger and Diane were blessed with two children. They shared 47 years of marriage.
Roger was a past board member of the Farmers Union in Gaylord. He was also a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord where he held different positions.
Roger enjoyed his many fishing and hunting trips. Family vacations to northern Minnesota, were very special to Roger, as he enjoyed being with his children and grandsons. Family and friends were very important to Roger. He always enjoyed visiting. Roger was a loving husband, Dad, and Grandpa. He will be greatly missed.
Roger is survived by his wife, Diane Harbarth of Gaylord; daughter, Kim Wobschall and her husband, Brett of Mankato; son, Brad Harbarth and his special friend, ReNae Buck; grandsons, Zachary Dorweiler and Beauen Harbarth of Gaylord; mother, Ruth Harbarth of Gaylord; sister, Elaine McGonigle and her husband, Lee of Lakeville; brother, Jim Harbarth and his wife, Rachel of Gaylord; sister-in-law, Barb Harbarth of Gaylord; mother-in-law, Verone Langhorst of Gaylord; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rita Heinrich and her husband, David of Battle Lake, Linda Meyer of Rochester, Carol Young and her husband, Jim of Winthrop; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steve Langhorst and his wife, Mary; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Harbarth; brother, Larry Harbarth; father-in-law, Elmer Langhorst; and nephew, Daniel McGonigle.
