Moltke Township abduction found to be fabricated

An investigation by the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has determined that the report of an abduction and assault of a juvenile female in Moltke Township Sept. 7 was false.

On Sept. 7 at 4:10 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a report that a juvenile female had been abducted and assaulted on County Road 2 in Moltke Township, about four miles north of Gibbon.

An investigation into the allegation by the Sheriff’s Office determined that the abduction and assault did not occur, according to the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office. The juvenile female recanted the allegation.

“Fortunately, this case ended without anyone being hurt,” Sheriff Bruce Ponath said. “The Sibley County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind people to be aware of their surroundings and to remain safe.”

Assisting the Sibley County Sheriff’s Office were the Gibbon Fire Department, Winthrop Ambulance, Minnesota State Patrol, Gibbon Police Department, Renville County Sheriff’s office, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
