County seeks bids for storage facility in Gaylord

Sibley County Commissioners will open bids August 9 for a proposed storage facility for the Sheriff’s Office and Environmental Services Department.

Commissioners are expected to consider the bids at the August 10 meeting.

According to Sibley County Sheriff Bruce Ponath, the plans call for the construction of an 84 x 48 ft. addition to the west side of the former Minnesota Department of Transportation shop, now used by the Sibley County Highway Department, located along Highway 19 on Gaylord’s west edge. Plans call for the building to have the capability to have in-floor heat.

Plan alternatives include the equipment necessary to have operational in-floor heat and a small office, toilet, and sink.

The goal is to pay for the storage facility through the Driver Awareness Fund. Ponath said it is projected that the fund will have approximately $130,000 in it by the end of 2010.

The Sheriff’s Office plans to store both of its boats, entry van, entry vehicle, and nicer forfeited vehicles in the new facility. Environmental Services plans to store three pickup trucks. Construction of the storage facility will save Sibley County a lease payment for a storage unit used by the Sheriff’s Office.
