The City of Gaylord’s Summer Recreation baseball and softball program will kick off with practices on Monday, June 14th.
City of Gaylord officials announced this week that there is still time to sign up for its Summer Recreation baseball and softball. To sign up, contact the city office at 237-2338. There is a $15.00 participation fee.
There will again be three levels in the Summer Recreation baseball program.
The Peanuts teams is for boys who have just completed grades 4 and 5. They will practice from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Gaylord Jaycees softball diamond.
PeeWees is for boys who have just completed grades 6 and 7. They will also practice at the Jaycees field. Practice sessions for PeeWees will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Gaylord’s Midgets team will be made up of boys who have just completed grades 8 and 9. Practice sessions for the Midgets will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Walsh Field.
Sibley East graduate Zach Herd, of Gaylord, will again serve as the head coach for the baseball teams. He will be assisted by Erik Goetsch.
One softball team is planned for Gaylord’s Summer Recreation program. It will consist of girls just completing grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. The team will practice at the Jaycee field from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Sibley East softball players Tara Quast and Paige Swenson will serve as the coach for Gaylord’s Summer Recreation softball team.
Gaylord’s baseball and softball squads will again compete in the Central Six League. This consists of teams from Arlington, Gibbon, Fairfax, Winthrop, McLeod and Glencoe.
Practices and games for baseball and softball are held Monday through Friday. The first game for the teams is scheduled for Wednesday, June 16th. A complete game schedule will be available from coaches the first week of practice.
