Sibley East’s girls’ track team captured four first place trophies Friday in the tenth annual Vrklan Relays at Arlington.
Senior Marie Rose led the way for the Lady Wolverines. She won the 400 meter race with a clocking of 1:04. Sibley East eighth-grader Courtney Eibs also competed in the 400 meters.
Wolverine Jessica Eibs chased down top honors in the 800 meter run. She was two seconds faster than her nearest competitor.
Sibley East also the Co-Ed Shuttle Hurdle Relay event. Wolverines Mari Haraldsen and Hannah Ling joined Nick Thies and Juan Garcia to capture top honors. Sibley East coach Jill Warzecha said she was pleased with Ling who stepped into this relay on short notice and helped the team in the win.
Earning a second place ribbon were Wolverines Haraldsen, Hannah Miner, Jenna White and Jessica Eibs. They combined for a runnerup finish in the Mid-Distance Relay.
Sibley East’s Megan Heibel placed third in the 200 meter dash. She clocked a time of 28.63 in that event.
Leading Junior High action for the Wolverines was the 4×200 relay team. Combining for a second place finish were Wolverines Sara Peterson, Megan Elseth, Frances Zuniga and Melanie Rovinsky.
There are no team scores kept in the Vrklan Relays. Trophies are awarded to first place finishers while those placing 2nd through 6th earn ribbons.
“This meet ran very smooth due to the large number of volunteers,” coach Warzecha said. “I am thankful to all who helped make this meet successful. We hope to repeat our success this Friday as the area Lions host a home meet.”
