The life of Sonora Dahlke will be honored on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at the Arlington United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church with a private burial in the Arlington Cemetery.
Sonora Johanna (Wieman) Dahlke, formerly of Arlington, died on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at her residence, Oak Terrace Health Care Center, Gaylord. Her family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the staff for the wonderful care and friendships during the final years of her life.
Sonora Johanna Wieman was born on February 2, 1908, in Dryden Township, Sibley County, to John H. and Johanna (Bandelin) Wieman. She was baptized June 18, 1908, by the Rev. G. A. Rabe and confirmed into the faith April 8, 1923, by the Rev. E. P. Christ at the Methodist Church in Arlington.
On December 19, 1951, she was united in marriage to Alfred Dahlke at the Arlington Methodist Church Parsonage by Rev. Floyd Kufus.
Sonora was always involved in her church where she was a member her whole life. She served as communion steward for many years and cleaned the church for over 50 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 65 years.
She looked forward to the times she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved visits from family and friends, near and far.
Survivors include her daughter and husband, Bonnie and Steve Schmitz of Arlington; two granddaughters and husbands, Lynn Schmitz and Justin Taylor, San Clemente, CA, and Candace and Phillip De Vlaeminck, Gaylord; great-grandchildren, Avery Schmitz Taylor, Alaina De Vlaeminck and Quintin De Vlaeminck; step-daughter and husband, Eileen and Loyal Younggren, Bloomington; step-grandchildren, Lynn (Ron) Hinnenkamp, Lynnwood, WA; Mark Younggren, Bloomington; Nancy Kleve and fiancé William Woodruff, Eagan; Ra Nay (Bob) Lentsch, Glencoe; Cindy (Rick) Pawlicki, Chaska; Kathy (Bill) Eckstein, Glencoe, Debbie Neubarth and Nick Anderson, Perham; nine step-great-grandchildren and four-step-great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arthur and La Verna Dahlke, Arlington; brother-in-law, Harry Dahlke, Chicago, IL.; sister-in-law, June Dahlke, Waconia; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred in 1955; step- daughter, Alice Neubarth; sisters, Malinda Smith, Ella Estenson and Frieda Mueller and brother, Walter Wieman.
Casket bearers will be Mark Younggren, Nancy Kleve, Ra Nay Lentsch, Cindy Pawlicki, Kathy Eckstein and Debbie Neubarth. Honorary casket bearers will be Lynn Hinnenkamp, John Mueller, Lola Yde, Bob Wieman, Earl Wieman, Jean Denny and Marilyn Witty.
