If approved by the City Council, the City of Gaylord’s slogan will remain The Hub of Sibley County.
Three months ago, City Council members asked for the community’s help in determining a slogan for Gaylord. More than 60 suggestions were submitted. Council members narrowed the suggestions to 17, then allowed citizens to vote on their favorite.
Voting ended last week and according to City Administrator Kevin McCann, The Hub of Sibley County, the City’s current slogan, was the most popular. McCann said this slogan received 90 of the 223 votes cast. A place to call home and On the shores of Lake Titloe tied for second with 19 votes.
Plans are to place The Hub of Sibley County slogan on a community sign (see below). This sign will soon be erected on City property located on the southeast corner of the new mini-strip mall development on Main Street. In August, the City Council approved the purchase and installation of a community sign which will be visible from two sides. Scenic Sign Corp. of St. Cloud was awarded the project, submitting a bid of $26,029.
According to City Administrator Kevin McCann, the sign will serve as a community message center announcing all events in the City of Gaylord. It will be owned and operated by the City, McCann explained.
Along with a message center, the sign will have a top cabinet. This symmetrical top cabinet will include the name Gaylord with the City’s tree logo and a spot for a slogan.
