Sibley County will have a new Third District Commissioner next year.
Retired Sibley East High School Principal Jim Swanson of Gaylord defeated Gaylord businessman Dan Uecker 684 to 605 to earn a seat on the Sibley County Board of Commissioners.
Bill Pinske of Arlington was re-elected Commissioner for the Second District with 1,385 votes. He was unopposed. The Second District includes the City of Arlington, Arlington and Kelso Townships.
Uecker and Swanson were the finalists from the Sept. 9 Primary Election for the Third District, when Mark Brandt, Jim Flantz, and Karl Kuphal were eliminated as candidates.
The Third District includes the City of Gaylord, Dryden and Sibley Townships.
It was Gaylord that provided the edge for Swanson. Swanson defeated Uecker in Sibley Township by eight votes, 85 to 77. Uecker defeated Swanson in Dryden Township by 40 votes, 103 to 63. However, Gaylord voters chose Swanson over Uecker 536 to 425.
For the past 18 years, the Third District has been represented by Leo Bauer of Sibley Township. Bauer is retiring at the end of the year.
