New Auburn story told in Coleman re-election ad

New Auburn Mayor Roger Becker and City Council member Catherine Lorenz have had their “two minutes of fame” recently.

The two have been heard and seen recently on a commercial supporting Norm Coleman’s re-election for Senate.

Becker and Lorenz explained how New Auburn was required to build the water treatment plant and water tower because of the high arsenic level in the water. The project, which cost more than $1 million, has had a tremendous financial impact on the small community.

Coleman helped the community secure a $295,000 federal grant.

The commercial was made early this year, about in February. Becker and Lorenz would not allow it to be released until New Auburn received its certificate of award for the federal grant. The funds were received last week, just in time to be included in the Coleman re-election campaign.

Lorenz described the experience as “nerve racking.” “I had never done this before, but in some ways, it was fun,” she recalled. It took about a half hour to film it.

Lorenz said that New Auburn has been fortunate to have Coleman and State Sen. Laura Brod to provide assistance.
