Howard A. Peik – 92


Howard A. Peik, age 92, of Brownton, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007, at the Gaylord Lakeview Nursing Home in Gaylord. Funeral Services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at the Congregational Church in Brownton, with interment in Zion/Emmanuel Cemetery in Sumter Township, McLeod County. The Rev. Don L. Martin officiated.

Howard A. Peik � 92Howard Albert Peik was born on June 26, 1914, in St. Cloud. He was the son of Albert and Lydia (Biebighauser) Peik. Howard lived with his parents in St. Cloud. until the family moved to a farm in McLeod County. He attended country school District #71 and graduated from Brownton High School in 1932.

On September 8, 1937, Howard was united in marriage to Lucille Ida Duehn. This marriage was blessed with three children: Richard, Charles and Randall. Howard and Lucille resided and farmed in Sumter Township, McLeod County. They moved into Brownton, Minnesota in 2000. Howard and Lucille shared 64 years of marriage until Lucille passed away in 2002.

Howard’s primary occupation was farming. In addition, Howard was a board member and agent of Sumter Mutual Fire Insurance Company for 40 years, as well as an agent for German Mutual Insurance Company of Norwood Young America. In his younger days, he worked for the Heil Well Company. Howard also worked as a substitute mail carrier for the Brownton Post Office for 12 years. Howard retired from farming in 1998.

Howard was a member of the Sumter Methodist Church, where he served on the board. He also was a member of the Brownton Methodist Church and served on the church board. He was a member of the Brownton Rod and Gun Club and Lake Marion Improvement Association. Howard and his wife were members of Crow River Good Sam’s Camping Club.

Howard’s hobbies included: fishing, hunting, camping, and gardening. He especially enjoyed music and was a musician himself, playing the trombone, accordion, mandolin, and piano.

Shortly after Lucille’s death in 2002, Howard moved to assisted living at The Oaks in Hutchinson. He resided at The Oaks until he moved to the Gaylord Lakeview Nursing Home in December 2005.

Howard is survived by his sons, Richard Peik and his wife, Carol of Madison, WI, Charles Peik and his wife, Barb of Gaylord, Randall Peik of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jonathan, David, Sara and Steven; great-grandchildren, Jake, Jesse, Jonah, Blake, Genevieve, Andrien and Bryer; many other relatives and friends.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lydia Peik; wife, Lucille Peik.
