Seven returning letterwinners are among the nearly 30 candidates vying for a spot in the Sibley East softball lineup.

Wolverine head coach Mark Standinger announced this week that the school’s fast pitch softball program has 27 girls competing for a position at the varsity level this season.

Headlining the list of candidates are returning letterwinners Lynn Farber, Kristin Foley, Jenna Felmlee, Kim Hildebrandt, Elya Ling, Tricia Thomes and Whitney Trocke.

“I have great young ladies out this year, but our varsity playing experience is very limited,” Standinger said. “With two starters returning from last year, both our offense and defense will be a big question mark for this year.”

Last season, the Lady Wolverines posted an 8-12 overall record. They finished 6-8 in conference play.

Standinger said he will be looking for leadership from returning pitcher Whitney Trocke and slugger Tricia Thomes early in the season. “After a few games, we will be able to evaluate our team situation and make changes if necessary,” Standinger said. “Only playing games will tell our strengths and weaknesses.”

The returning letterwinners for the Wolverines are all seniors. Other seniors on the preseason roster are foreign exchange students Rie Nygaard and Julia Steiner.

Other candidates for the Sibley East varsity softball team include:

Juniors – Jenni DuFrane, Torey Toenies and Brittany Trocke;

Sophomores – Jessica Barlage, Lindsay Thomes, Ashley Becker, Amanda Bernstein, Sadie Frauendienst, Samantha Henke, Megan Meyer, Kale Peterson, Beth Risk, Ashley Salisbury, Bethany Trout and Kassy Volinkaty;

Ninth-graders – Brittney Brockoff, Lauren Keithahn and Kayla Trocke;

Eighth-grader – Kelsey Sunvold;

Coach Standinger will once again be assisted by Rod Tollefson and Steph Schultz.
