SE girls serve up win over Minnesota Valley Lutheran

Sibley East’s volleyball team served its way to win number ten on the season. The Lady Wolverines defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 3-1 Monday in non-conference action at Gaylord.

Scores from the match were 25-11, 24-26, 25-18 and 25-19.

It was one of the best serving performances of the season for the Lady Wolverines who recorded 16 aces on the night.

Seniors Dani Stien and Kaili Schwirtz powered the Sibley East serving game. Stien was 17 of 18 with a season high six ace serves. Schwirtz meanwhile made good on 24 of her 25 serve attempts. She hammered five ace serves in the rout.

Sibley East head coach Chip Wolverton also highlighted the defensive play of Kirsten Nienaber. She charted ten digs and provided “great on target passing,” according to Wolverton.

Stien and Andrea Bauer fueled the Sibley East offense with 14 and eleven kills respectively. Stien also recorded two solo blocks.

Schwirtz and Tara Dietz combined for 40 set assists. Abby Anderson and Andrea Bauer added ten digs apiece for the winners.

“We let game two slip away with a late lapse in serve receive, but otherwise we controlled the action all night,” coach Wolverton said.
